"Visitors and Residents"
A visitor, according to White, would be considered one who goes online and does what he/she needs to do. Visitors have no “social persona” online, and would prefer to maintain private.
A resident, on the other hand, lives out a portion of their life online. They see the internet as a social space, and would like to be visible in this social space.
I would consider myself both a visitor and a resident. I believe that there is a time and a place to be a social presence on the internet. I am visitor in that I am more of a private person, and would prefer to keep my personal life off of the internet for the world to see. When it comes to my personal life, aside from posting pictures here and there, I keep it off the net. However, when it comes to using the internet to my advantage within my classroom, I would consider myself a resident. I love the idea of Google Docs, and the fact that it allows students and teachers to collaborate. I have used Kahoot in my classrooms with great success. I have no problem posting my blogs on my website for people to see my thinking and creative side. As I said before, time and place - it is different for everyone.
